On January 27, 2015, Simcoe County Council approved a $432 million budget for 2015. Originally, a 2% increase was proposed on the County portion of the municipal taxes Simcoe County residents receive. After review of the draft budget, I met with staff and other councillors to see how this could be reduced by 50% through further savings and efficiencies. I made a motion at County Council to have the increase reduced to 1%. After discussion and voting, the overall increase was 1.06%, which will have an impact on the County portion of municipal property taxes of approximately $3.23 per $100,000 of property assessment.
