Council supports Edwin Espinal’s release from Honduran prison
Council passed a motion to call upon the Canadian Government to press the Honduran Government into releasing Edwin Espinal immediately and dropping all charges

Edwin Espinal, a close family member to a resident in Springwater, remains unjustly incarcerated in a Honduran prison, now for a period of 14 months.

Almost one thousand Canadian citizens have endorsed the Parliamentary E-Petition #1868, which advocates for Edwin Espinal’s release from prison. The petition was presented in the House Chamber by Member of Parliament Alex Nuttall of Barrie–Springwater–Oro-Medonte in February 2019.

County introduces an age-friendly Seniors Housing Grant Program
The County of Simcoe has established an annual fund of $500,000 for eligible Seniors Housing Grant Program projects. Grant amounts will be distributed based on the number of applications received and ability to meet funding criteria.

Grants fall into three categories:

• Accessible housing design for seniors
• Design for people suffering dementia
• Support services (e.g. raised gardens)

Township proceeds with the purchase of Hasty Tract
Council directed staff to continue with the purchase of the Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry property, Hasty Tract. This parcel is intended to be the future site for a new fire station and community hub.

Township plans for street sweeping 
Springwater’s Spring sweeping of winter sand and debris will be completed more efficiently this year for residents through contracted services. This allows municipal staff to begin other maintenance work earlier in the season. Further details will be provided once confirmed.
