Thank you everyone to gathered to raise the flag in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters Month. The theme of this month is IMAGINE and we are encouraged to imagine what a young person can become when they have the support of a caring adult in their lives.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Simcoe offers a variety of programs to help children in our area reach their full potential. These programs include 1 to 1 matching, Big Bunch Group, In School Mentoring and Go Girl programs. They currently serve over 160 students in Springwater, Midland, Penetanguishene, Tiny and Tay.
Studies have shown the positive effects of these programs on our youth; those who have a Big Brother or a Big Sister are less likely to bully or be bullied, feel better about school, and are more likely to have a healthy and positive outlook on life – well into adulthood.
These positive effects also extend to the mentors, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, who report having a happier life knowing that they are enhancing the life of a young person and contributing to their community.
I encourage everyone to learn more about the wonderful services and opportunities offered by Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Simcoe and make a difference in a young person’s life.
