Claim – Fiction
Did you vote to support over $1.2 million on wasted legal fees?
Here are the Facts –
The claims of Tony Guergis are not based on facts and are filled with incorrect negative innuendos and allegations. He refers to a chart of legal fees produced by Director of Finance Schmidt from 2010 to March 2018 totalling $1.286 million. The total legal fees spent from 2011 to March 2018 total $1.242 million. This is over two terms of Council, where they had impact on the fees in each term. Previous Council spent approximately $312,000 on legal fees. This term of Council spent legal fees to March 31, 2018 of $974,000, of which $195,000 (to March 31, 2018) related to the Bill French JCAC matter which, as stated above, has now increased to close to $300,000, with legal and other related fees. As stated, this has not been able to be controlled by this Council, which had had to remain independent from this legal action. Netting this off these related legal fees to March 31, 2018 leaves $779,000 of legal fees to March 31, 2018 for this term of Council. Of this, $52,250 relates to personnel and employment matters and $150,000 relates to general matters, $165,000 relates to growth matters and the remaining $411,750 related to OMB appeals for EEK pit, Estates of Anten Mills, County Official Plan, Midhurst OPA 38, Jurisdiction motion and other smaller matters. These have been necessary legal costs related to planning and increasing growth in Springwater and always with consideration and concern for what is best for the residents.
