Mark It Read for Dyslexia

The Township will ‘Mark it Read for Dyslexia’ on Wednesday, October 21. At the request of Trisha and Gregory Barker, parents of a child with dyslexia, Springwater will be lighting the Township Administration Centre sign with red lights to raise awareness for dyslexia.

Dyslexia is described as an unexpected difficulty in reading for an ability of an individual to speak, read, spell and often learn a second language. It is believed that dyslexia affects 10 to 20 percent of the population.

There is no cure for dyslexia, but with early screening, diagnosis, intervention and appropriate accommodation, dyslexic individuals can become highly successful students and adults.
I hope that on October 21, you will join me in taking the time to learn a little bit more about dyslexia, how it affects those in our community and what we can do to be more inclusive.
